It was another tremendous weekend of MMA action at Resorts legendary Superstar Theater.
July 23 and July 24 marked the thirty first and thirty second shows promoted by the premier organization in the North East. These also happened to be two of the finest NBF events ever produced.
Two nights filled with highly competitive fights and tons of fun for the interacting fans.
Friday night was a special night due to the surprise tribute given to one of the finest fighters and instructors the sport of MMA has to offer, Professor Ricardo Almeida. Ricardo is developing his own legacy in the sport while still taking the time to operate one of the finest academy's in the region. His support of New Breed Fighters has made a huge contribution to the popularity and credibility the organization receives.
It was obvious from the first night that the fighters also felt there was something special in the air...
Jared Morelli, 1-0, Kassaki Kai Karate, came out an inspired fighter as he bullied his way into a split decision victory over a game Brad Boulton, JBM Jiu Jitsu Academy.
Alex Davydov, 2-0, Arden Sweet Science followed by defeating Brandon Cromartie, 0-1, Modern Martial Arts via guillotine .47 seconds of round 2.
Fight 3 saw Brian Cowden, 1-0, Kassaki Kai Karate, surprise Justin Jones, Team Daddis, with a guillotine at 35 seconds of round 1.
Our next fight saw Pierre Lopez, 1-1, BullPen Vale Tudo put his big reputation on display with some devastating punches ending in a TKO at 1:03 of round 2 over Rob Belfi, 0-1, AFS Team Asylum
Next we had John Williams, 1-0, Ricardo Almeida Association display superior bjj in a 3 round unanimous victory over a real tough competitor in Mike Annarella, Team Reckless
Louis Apalucci, 2-1, BullPen Vale Tudo, survived a war and came out the victor by split decision over Shane Glasgow, Modern Martial Arts
Chris Vallaro, 2-1, Arden Sweet Science got all he wanted from Jason Sargus, 0-1, Advantage MMA while eventually winning due to guillotine 1:26 of round 3.
Mike Forte, 2-1, Wilkies Warriors showed up in phenomenal shape and overcame Dave Moraski, 0-1, Ricardo Almeida Association stopping the fight due to facial laceration at 1:43 of round 2.
In another gem David Greenberg, 1-0, Advanced Martial Arts stood up to the challenge from Chris Borders, 0-2, 76th St. Gym winning a super tight battle by split decision.
Fan favorite David Miller, 2-1, NYCBJJ, is back on the winning track with a victory over Paul Ritchey, 0-1, Modern Martial Arts via rear naked choke 2:28 into round 1.
Steven Rominides, 4-2, Renzo Gracie Newark looked unstoppable in winning a 3 round unanimous decision over an extremely talented Marius Enache, 0-1, Team Balance.
In another 3 round unanimous decision Paul Felder, Kissaki Kai Karate, 2-0, looked scary good against Juan Vazquez, 2-1, Advantage MMA
In our first main event Adam Skillin, 3-0, RGDA surprised a few folks with a unanimous 3 round decision over the very gifted Sergio Da Silva, 2-2, Vitor Shaolin. Adam showed some serious bjj to go along with a humongous heart in this epic battle. We all expected Adam to be super slick on the ground by he surprised Da Silva with some real distracting shots on his feet. David Adiv has done a wonderful job preparing Adam for his Title shot. We expect Sergio to return more than ready to get back on track.
CONGRATULATIONS to Adam Skillan! New Breed Fighters Lightweight Champion.
Finally the night ended with an unbelievable Title fight which saw Max Bohanan 3-0, Ricardo Almeida Association, emerge as New Breed Fighters new Middleweight champ. What a fight we saw as young Max overcame a STRONG opponent in Jay Eib, 3-2, Modern Martial Arts. In defeat Jay showed the heart of a lion, refusing to quit no matter what leaving the crowd marveling at his tenacity. However Max showed limitless talent and a future that looks extremely bright.
At an after party Saturday at A.C, Bar and Grill over 100 people were found chanting Felder vs Bohanan! Felder vs Bohanan! Felder vs Bohanan! Stay tuned to see if the rowdy crowd's wishes come true.
Saturday night was special in its own right.
Dominic Urso, 1-2, Miletich Atlantic City and Chris Weaver, 1-0, L.A. Boxing waged a magnificent battle with Weaver eeking out all 3 rounds and winning a unanimous decision.
Fight 2 saw Mike Pandolfini, 1-0, Team Daddis catch Joe Friedman, 0-1, Miletich Fighting systems at 25 seconds of round 1 resulting in a victory by TKO.
Ronaldo Linares, 1-0, Wilkies Warriors dominated Joe Curcio, 1-2, NYCBJJ eventually submitting him via rear naked choke 1:51 of round 2.
Dan Smedburg, 3-3, Renzo Gracie, Penn. needed to finish Luis Finateri, 1-4, Infinite MMA in round 3 in order to overcome a scorecard that found him behind. At 2:50 of round 3 he did just that finishing Luis via rear naked choke.
In what was our celebration of the weekend Brian Palakow, 1-0, Team Daddis displayed a dominant ground game in submitting Ian Fisher, 0-1, AFS Team Asylum via verbal tap due to keylock at 2:04 of round 1. Palakow exploded in victory circling the cage like a thoroughbred race horse. With cat like quickness and mobility Palakow delighted his numerous fans.
In a fight that looked far closer than the scorecard Sidney Outlaw, 2-0, Renzo Gracie PA won a unanimous decision over Whitney Francois, 0-1, Westchester MMA. This fight saw two of the most athletic fighters of the weekend face each other in what was one exciting fight that all the fans are still talking about.
In an equally exciting fight Jorge Martinez, 3-0, Modern Martial Arts won a unanimous decision over Bienvenido Diaz, 1-2, Team Carvalho. Jorge has certainly made a case for a Title fight and we hope to accommodate on our next card.
Mtume Goodrum, 2-1, BullPen Vale Tudo, gave us our third straight fight to go to the judges while winning a unanimous decision over Scott Hlubick, 2-3, AFS Team Asylum.
In what has become the quickest fight in NJ State history "Hurrican" Wayne Hargrove, 2-0, Team Carvalho caught Vic Romero, 2-2, Modern Martial Arts, with a vicious blow and ended it 5 seconds into round 1. WOW! is all we can say. We hope you didn't blink. Cause if you did you missed this one.
Steve Mytych, 2-0, Gracie NEPA, showed his world class wrestling in defeating the very talented Anthony Rodriguez, 1-1, BullPen Vale Tudo via 3 round split decision.
Evan Chmielski, 4-5, X-Treme Miletich ended his ammy career with a split decision victory over Team Carvalho's Epifano Diaz, 3-2. This was a very competitive and exciting fight the fans thoroughly enjoyed.
The night ended with our only Title fight. Patrick Sabatini, Warrior Martial Arts won his eighth consecutive bout in quick fashion over Jordon Stiner, 4-1, Renzo Gracie PA 43 seconds into round 1. Patrick caught Stiner with a deep armbar causing young Stiner to submit. Patrick is quickly establishing himself as one of the top prospects in the region. He and his family have been tremendous contributors to NBF and we are very fortunate to work with such quality people.
Is there anyone out there who can challenge this young man?
Phil Doig, 4-2, Modern Martial Arts has earned the Super Welterweight Title while Brandon Piper BullPen Vale Tudo, 2-1, is now our new Super Light Heavyweight Champion.
